"Carbonidée" Panel

Research-Indigenous collaboration to combat climate change and biodiversity loss

The native territories of Quebec's boreal forest are home to some of the last large tracts of old-growth forests south of the northern limit, ecosystems rich in biodiversity that have been storing large quantities of carbon for hundreds of years. Concerned about the fate of these last unmanaged forests, several Indigenous communities and research teams are collaborating to assess the role of conserving carbon-rich ecosystems in combating climate change and protecting biodiversity. In this panel discussion, participants from the Indigenous and research communities demonstrate how collaboration offers great opportunities to address the multiple crises facing forest ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

The four panelists will be:

They will be moderated by Nicolas Mainville , Conservation and Climate Director at Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS Quebec).

This event, free and open to the general public, will take place in the Grande Salle of UQO's Alexandre-Taché Pavilion (Gatineau) on May 1st at 7:00 p.m., following the Happy Hour. Come one, come all!
